Hi, hello, and welcome to Crazy Kitchen!
My name’s Joelle Warthmann, I am 20 years old and I love to bake (and eat) sweet stuff. Vanilla, chocolate, streusel, puff pastry, whipped cream, and salted caramel are just a few of my favourite ingredients (to be completely honest: that list could go on).
I am also a huge fan of street food and all the multi-cultural, savoury dishes out there. Keep your eyes peeled for future travel posts!
On Crazy Kitchen you’ll find simple, delicious recipes that will satisfy any sweet tooth and home-baker. I enjoy baking with chocolate, (seasonal) fruit and a lot of love!
How it all began …
I started my food blog Crazy Kitchen as part of my final school year thesis during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. The thesis is officially over, but because I absolutely fell in love with blogging, I decided to continue Crazy Kitchen and I now blog during my free time. Thank you for supporting my little corner on the internet π
Besides baking, I am quite musical – I love to sing, dance and play the guitar. My taste in music changes all the time – I listen to pop, acoustic covers, Latin music, techno, rap … it all depends on my mood! π
I also love being “active”: I try to run or hit the gym 2-4 times a week (somehow one needs to burn off all those extra calories … π ). I really do enjoy fitness/workouts! In winter, you’ll find me in the mountains snowboarding or skiing, and in summer, I’ll be somewhere outside, or if on holiday, I might be in the ocean diving with some fishies :).
I finished school in July 2021, and enjoyed a gap year until September 2022. In my gap year, I worked full-time for a few months and spent the rest of the time working part-time and traveling. I absolutely fell in love with London (don’t tell anyone … but I loved it so much that I went twice within three weeks, haha) and Barcelona. The food scene is insane, especially in London!
In early autumn of 2022, I started studying English and communication science. I am not quite sure where life will take me after uni, but I know for sure that I want to work with people since I am a very sociable, somewhat extroverted person π
Quick notice: As of summer 2021, I am open to more partnerships/collaborations/etc. If you are interested in working together, head to my Work with Me page, or contact me via email at joellewarth[at]gmail.com!
I love to travel!
I also love to travel and discover & experience new cultures, and of course also try local desserts. I was born in Texas, USA. My mom is South African and my dad is Swiss. At home, we speak SWINGLISH (Swiss German-English), which is literally a South African English consisting of 35 % Swiss-German words π . South Africa is one of my favourite destinations to travel to, because of the beautiful scenery, many interesting wild animals (observed from a safe distance from the safari-jeep), and, of course, the food is great.
As mentioned above, I loooove London. I love the old-meets-new vibe, and all the historical sightseeing that one can do. But, most of all, London’s food game is outrageously phenomenal. All the (street) food markets/halls, the bakeries, cafΓ©s, the coffee … whenever I go, I am in true heaven!
I’m also fond of Paris – the city of love and countless “boulangeries”. My class and I went there for a week to learn about Pablo Picasso. In the end, I think we all fell in love with the Eiffel Tower and warm, buttery croissants instead of his famous paintings!
I also love diving, and one of the most beautiful places to go diving was definitely Thailand. My family loved the food – I donβt eat fish, so sometimes it was a bit hard for me π
But, my most favourite travel destination has to be the Greek island of Kos. It was once a volcanic island – today it’s a fantastic place to spend a really relaxing holiday, enjoying the gorgeous beaches and the ocean, and eating the best food. Why don’t you google “Moussaka”, “Pastitsio” or “Gyros”, then you’ll know what I mean.
So, enough about me, my favourite foods and traveling. It probably sounds like I travel every weekend – I wish that was true, haha! At the moment I am fully invested in studying, organizing my life and blogging, so one day I do hope that I can travel for a few weeks. Until then, have fun baking and take care!
